Kassanda Leaders Raise Alarm Over Alleged Sale of Government Jobs

Leaders and residents in Kassanda District have raised concerns over alleged corruption in the recruitment of government workers, accusing the District Service Commission of engaging in practices where some jobs are reportedly sold to applicants instead of being awarded on merit.

The allegations have triggered renewed concerns about the quality of public service delivery, with district leaders warning that irregular recruitment processes could allow unqualified individuals to occupy positions meant for competent and qualified professionals.

Kassanda District LC5 Chairperson Drake Ssemuyaba Ssembusi said the alleged sale of government jobs has negatively affected the performance of public institutions across the district.

“Government jobs should be awarded based on merit, qualifications and competence, not on an individual’s ability to pay money. When recruitment is compromised, it is ordinary citizens who suffer from poor service delivery,” Ssembusi said.

He said a transparent and accountable recruitment process would enable the district to attract competent personnel capable of improving service delivery in critical sectors, including health, education and local government administration.

“We need a recruitment process that is transparent, fair and accountable. Only qualified people should be entrusted with serving the public because that is the only way residents will receive the quality services they deserve,” he added.

Ssembusi called on relevant government authorities to strengthen oversight of District Service Commissions across the country to address corruption allegations and restore public confidence in the recruitment system.
